How To Set A Promise, Not A GOAL.

I recently read a lesson by Bill Bartman. Not sure if you know who Bill is, but Bill is a Billionaire and has a very unique story like many of us have.

He grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, was involved in several gangs, Drug addict, an Alcoholic at the same time.

You see, Bill did not give up on his dreams and goals. The lesson I read was all about how to set Goals, but more importantly change that word to a
PROMISE.

10 Steps To Setting And Achieving Goals:

1. Make Sure It’s Your Goal

-Many times in our life we spend more time on someone else’s goals than our personal internal passionate goals. Make sure its your goal to succeed in network marketing, make sure its your goal to succeed in life!

2. Don’t Call It A Goal

- Harvard Medical did research on the amount of people who set goals and never achieved them. The number was astonishing, over 70% of the people never reach a goal they have set.

Call your goal a “Promise”, you are more likely to commit to a promise then a goal. Harvard Medical once again did a test, and figured out that 98% of the American Population will complete a promise.

3. Clearly Identify Your Promise

- I have walked around with a “blur” in my head kind of like when you have water in your eyes. Begin to see your PROMISE crystal clear, what is it exactly that you are trying to achieve.

4. Use The Tools Around You

- We must begin to use the tools around us,whether they are positive or negative motivators you must have someone in your life that is holding you accountable to reaching and achieving your goals.

Example: A Negative motivator is someone who has told you this: Scott, you will never succeed as an artist. Or maybe they laughed at you when you said your going to walk away from your job.

Write this persons name down on a card, and post it on your wall in front of your computer, your cubicle where ever you are. So when times are rough, you look at that card and it will motivate you to keep going.

5. Create A Promise Plan

*WHAT is it you’re going to do
*WHERE will you be
*WHEN will you accomplish it
*WHY do you want this
*WHO’s help do you need
*HOW are your resources

- In your Promise plan, you need to outline each of these specific characteristics of identifying at a very crystal clear level the entire process. As Chet Holmes would say, “you have to have pig-headed discipline and determination.” 

6. Review Plan and Promise On A Regular Basis

- 20 Minutess everyday, you need to review and re-read and note how far along are you on this PROMISE PLAN. If you do not have 20 minutes, that is a complete lie. There is a special reading place we all have where we spend 15-20 mins sometimes sitting down at. (Bill used this analogy)

7. Tell your Self You Will Succeed

“The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief”

- Pay attention to your sub-conscious thoughts every single day you are more than likely bringing yourself down. Observe how you communicate with others about your business, and where you stand as a networker. You may be saying negatives affirmations and hurting your own self belief.

8. Tell Others About Your Promise

- Go out and share with the world about your promise and where you are headed. Don’t sit back and try to keep it a secret. Have people laugh at you, then write their name down on a card and stick on your wall! Envision The Results

- Bill shared the story of Michael Jordan. Bill was about to buy the Chicago Bulls and spent some time with the team most importantly. At that time he was writing a book and had asked Michael about ENVISIONING… If you guys do not remember Michael Jordan shot a free throw with his eyes closed in the 1997 championship against the Sonics.

He was able to do that he told Bill, because he envisioned it every single day!

- We are the only ones who can create or fail in the process of becoming wealthy. There is no other voice other than yours that can move you to want to create the freedom you wish, but most importantly desire.

What Happens Inside You

Elise Robinson said, “Things may happen around you and things may happen to you, but the only thing that matters is what happens IN you.” In the midst of chaos, you have to brace yourself, build your faith, feed your mind with positive materials, and seek opportunities you’ve never considered before. Who cares what the rest of the world is doing? You should be getting stronger, smarter, and strategizing to launch a new life, astonishing everyone with your success and tenacity.

In May in 2004, after a near death auto accident, my life changed forever.  I was on my way to work when out of nowhere a brilliant white object appeared heading straight for my car and my head. It crashed into the windshield sending glass everywhere in the car and then surprisingly disappeared. When I looked up there was a gaping hole right in front of me. I truly believe it was by the grace of God that I survived this accident. That day I rededicated my life to follow the path and life Christ taught me to lead. Little did I know, God was preparing me to face the greatest trial and challenge of my Christian life?

Blessings in Disguise

Personally, I experienced some of the greatest opportunities when I was in despair. When I had to resign from my job as an education program manager, I felt betrayed and angry. I still wanted my job back, regardless of the fact that while I was at that job, I faced constant oppression and abuse from management.  Resigning turned out to be a blessing in disguise. If I had not resigned, I might still be there today, and might never have discovered my true voice, talents and impact.

Dr. Robert Schuller said, “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” Make no mistake about it, times were tough, but I was tougher. In the last few years I’ve faced debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjögren’s syndrome, depression, and joblessness. The Spirit of God has made me resilient beyond my wildest imagination. I had to stop looking at the circumstances around me and say I will “Live Life Empowered.”

I hear you; it’s easier said than done, right? Well, maybe. See, I found life so uncomfortable when I was leading an average life. But, it’s never easy to do something different, something outside of your comfort zone. In fact, people run and hide from challenges. I was one of them until I let the Spirit guide my life. To make my point easier, remember the story of Jonah and the Whale?

Jonah hid in the belly of a whale to avoid living up to higher expectations! How easy was that?

One African Proverb says, “If there’s no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm.”

Les Brown says, “We should get out of our own way; simply put, Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Greatness.”

Finding Your True Self

Lastly, find your true self. We live within the conversations in our heads and the recommendations of others. For years, I lived a mediocre life! I lived paycheck to paycheck; rarely taking risks, always accepting what I could get, and never dreaming big. Today my core foundation is about empowering the spirit within me and challenging myself to lead a life of my own design, rather than one scripted by society, environment or anyone else.

Again, Live Life Empowered. Mediocrity set low expectations for my life. How many negative voices do you have floating in your head? Here you are – extremely talented, but someone told you to “be realistic” when you shared your goals. I can’t say it enough; empower your life! Forget about those doubts, obstacles, and fears; create a strategy.

  • Take an hour a day to program your mind for success. Remember, information costs, but it pays for itself.
  • Write down goals that will take you outside of your comfort zone.
  • Read something positive every day, particularly in the morning. How you spend the first 20 minutes of your day will decide the flow for the rest of the day.
  • Finally, upgrade your relationships. Dr. Dennis Kimbro said, “If you are the smartest in your group of friends, get new friends.”

These are very simple tips on getting ahead.

names immediately popped into their heads, I’ll bet it would
